Preface: BIM, as a full lifecycle application, has different solutions for each project phase — decision-making, design, bidding, construction, completion, and operation & maintenance.

This book primarily focuses on the deep application of Revit in interior finishing projects during the design phase, by deconstructing Revit software functions and converting them to finishing applications.

Chapter 1: Revit Overview — covers built-in thinking, basic software knowledge and operations, with additional skill points. Chapter 2: Introduction and usage of commonly used system families in finishing. Chapter 3: Deconstruct all custom family templates, analyze, summarize, and provide examples to enhance custom family capabilities. Chapter 4: All material properties including drawing and rendering material settings. Chapter 5: Detailed guide to creating drawing templates. Chapter 6: Layout and output of common interior drawing types. Chapter 7: Central file collaboration. Chapter 8: Dynamo basics — explains common nodes and learns Dynamo applications in finishing through case studies.

For BIMers in architecture, structure, and MEP disciplines, it's hard to transition to finishing because these disciplines mostly use the software's own system families and don't need custom families. So most tutorials only tell you how to operate the software, not how to use it in specific disciplines like finishing.

This is why many people find finishing BIM difficult. The difference between finishing projects and other disciplines is the lack of standardized components — most need custom families, and finishing drawing expression is more complex. So to learn finishing BIM well, standard family creation is the most basic requirement.

If finishing also had a massive component library available, finishing BIM could take flight.

If you find this book helpful, recommend it to the BIMers around you.

Wishing everyone, through this book, can step into the new realm of finishing BIM.
